Message from the Superintendent

The 2026–2027 school year is here, and I’m excited for what’s ahead in Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools!

This year, our theme is Better Every Day: Laser Focus. Last year, we talked about how being 1% better each day leads to exponential growth. This year, we are taking that same spirit and applying a laser focus to the areas that matter most for our students’ success — and taking time to celebrate our wins along the way. Achieving great things is important, but so is pausing to recognize the progress we’ve made together.

Our North Star Goal guides our work: By 2031, 100% of students who graduate will do so with a Diploma+ endorsement, with no disparities by race or gender, while meeting or exceeding the state’s average graduation rate. Our broader goal is that each student leaves high school prepared for college and careers in a global society — on track, on time, and ready for success.

Explore the Roadmap to our North Star

We will stay focused through four key areas:

  • Customer Service – Launching our new Let’s Talk platform so families get answers quickly and reliably.
  • Belonging – Creating schools where every student feels safe, supported, and able to excel.
  • Consistency – Delivering high-quality, grade-level content for all students.
  • Coherence – Building a unified instructional program with clear priorities for everyone.

Our Diploma+ program continues to connect students at every grade level with career exploration and, in high school, with rich work-based learning opportunities. From internships to industry certifications, students are building real-world skills that will serve them for a lifetime.

I know that with our collective laser focus, we will continue to grow, achieve, and give our students the opportunities they deserve — and we’ll take time to celebrate each step forward. Because in KCKPS, we are Better Every Day.

Student Advisory Board

Dr. Stubblefield meets monthly with her Superintendent's Student Advisory Board.

This group of students represent all of the high schools in KCKPS — including F. L. Schlagle, J. C. Harmon, Washington, Wyandotte, Sumner Academy, and Alfred Fairfax Academy. The Student Advisory Board advises the superintendent on a variety of topics, including curriculum, Diploma+, school lunches, and daily class schedules.

Parent, Caregiver, & Community Collaborative Council

The Superintendent's Parent, Caregiver, & Community Collaborative Council (SPCCCC) is an advisory group dedicated to fostering collaboration between the school district's leadership, parents, and the wider KCKPS community.
