Students of the Month | October 2026

Khalani Collins from Bethel ECC has been recognized as the Early Childhood Student of the Month for October 2026.
Khalani was nominated by her teacher, Ms. Miller-Lopez, in recognition of her outstanding compassion and positive behavior.
When Khalani started this school year, she did not miss a beat!
She began the year strong and quickly made new friends. She has also been a wonderful support to classmates who are new to a school setting and may need a little extra encouragement or assistance.
Khalani continues to demonstrate strong leadership skills and is often a positive role model for both her classmates and teachers.
She has attended school every day so far this year, and she is an absolute joy to have in the classroom each day.
Her confidence, kindness, independence, and willingness to help others make her a very special part of our classroom community.
Rose Sang from Stony Point North has been recognized as the Elementary School Student of the Month for October 2026.
Rose is a fifth-grade student who was nominated by her teacher, Ms. Otto, for her positive behavior, kindness, leadership, and love of learning.
Rose excels at learning. Not only does she complete her work to the best of her ability, she also asks questions, helps others, and is always ready for a challenge.
She is a strong advocate and has a maturity and way to communicate that is rarely seen at the 5th grade level.
Due to these strengths of hers, she is one of our 3 student ambassadors that we are beginning to coach to welcome visitors into the school building.
She has also been nominated for the Junior National Young Leaders Conference and NYLF Pathways to STEM Conference through Envision by the WorldStrides organization.
Rose is a hidden gem to her class and grade level. Her quiet presence has a huge impact on her class and the students she is around.
Brayla Simien from Carl B. Bruce Middle School has been recognized as the Middle School Student of the Month for October 2026.
Brayla is an outstanding example of excellence, leadership, and kindness.
She was nominated by JAG-K Career Specialist LaQuisha Harvey, who said Brayla consistently demonstrates outstanding academics, strong character, and a commitment to her school and peers.
Not only is she the President of The JAGK Program at Carl Bruce but she's the type of President that arranged a guest speaker because she overheard another student express their passion for cosmetology.
“Brayla deserves to be recognized as Student Of The Month because of her determination to ensure her grades are high, her teachers are pleased and her peers are successful. She doesn't shine alone, she actually helps others to shine and is a constant reminder that greatness is to be walked in even at a young age,” said Ms. Harvey.
Ezra Matthew from Sumner Academy has been recognized as the High School Student of the Month for October 2026.
Nominated by science educator Juan Tirado-Garcia, Ezra is a Junior at Sumner who aligns with both academic goals and personal aspirations.
Ezra has been a dedicated member of the varsity cross-country and track teams throughout his high school career.
Additionally, he is a pivotal member of the varsity basketball team at Sumner. Ezra has been in three varsity sports per year since his freshman year.
Outside of athletics, his academics are remarkable as well. As his family advocate, I have seen him earn and maintain a high GPA. “He is the definition of a true scholar-athlete,” said Tirado-Garcia. “I also have the pleasure of being his educator for the IB Environmental Systems Course. Immediately, I have seen him shine in the classroom and become a leader amongst his peers.
I've noticed that he has exemplified dedication, resilience, and commitment. Distance running demands discipline, consistency, and mental toughness, and Ezra has embodied these qualities throughout his athletic & academic career.”
