Social Workers at KCKPS Named Top Five Finalists for Kansas School Social Worker of the Year

The Student Support Programs at Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools are proud to announce that two of their exceptional social workers have been named top-five finalists for Kansas Social Worker of the Year honors.

Grant Elementary School Social Worker Rachel Pollock and Arrowhead Middle School Social Worker Tykeisha Kelly have been recognized for their outstanding contributions to the well-being and success in their schools.
The Kansas School Social Workers Association (KSSWA) annually seeks nominees for the Kansas School Social Worker of the Year Award.

The award is designed to honor a school social worker who has exhibited outstanding performance in all aspects of their role within the educational environment.
"Since joining Grant Elementary School, Miss Pollock has shown exceptional dedication to supporting our students' social, emotional, and mental well-being,” said Grant Elementary School Principal Heather Calvert. “Her ability to connect with students from diverse backgrounds and foster a safe, supportive environment is nothing short of remarkable.”
Miss Kelly’s impact at Arrowhead Middle School also hasn’t gone unnoticed. She’s received high praise from the principal at her school. “I am fortunate to have a social worker who cares about every kid, every staff member, and every family working alongside me,” said Arrowhead Middle School Principal Larry Smith.
In addition to Pollock and Kelly’s recognition, several other dedicated social workers from KCKPS were nominated for the award, including:
- Alexis Strauss, Welborn Elementary School
- Rezene Hermon, Lindbergh Elementary School
- Laura Kozak, John Fiske Elementary School
- Brittany Marsh, Douglass Elementary School
“While they did not win School Social Worker of the Year, this is such a tremendous honor and testament to their leadership, skills, and knowledge,” said Director of Student Support Programs Tracie Chauvin.
Congratulations to the awesome social workers at KCKPS.
