For the second consecutive year, the varsity Debate Team at Sumner Academy came out on top at the KSHSAA Class 5A Debate Tournament.

The squad took second place at the tournament held at Garden City High School in Garden City, Kansas, on January 16-18.

The tournament featured over 300 students competing in simultaneous tournaments for 2- and 4-speaker championships.

The Sabres secured a second place finish with a 12-4 record. The negative team went 7-1, while the affirmative team finished with a 5-3 record.

"I'm really proud of the whole Policy Debate team, but especially our state team. Hopefully next year we do even better and get first, said Sumner junior and Team Captain Gabe Andrade.
